Certainty and the Need to be Right

We all want a certainty in our lives. We want to know that we will get something from what we put out. We want to know that we are right in our views, words, actions, etc. The thing is there is no certainty other than change. Things can change for the better. They can change for the worse. In the end it is all about change. Even death is just another form of change. That really is the all of this post, yet I feel the need to add more. The question is; what is the more? I don't understand my own desire for certainty sometimes. Why do I "have" to be right? Why do I "have" to get something in return? In all honestly the need to be right often is the bigger driver for me as I do a lot of things because they make me happy and that is the only expectation I have of those actions. This need to be right, just to focus on one of my biggest ones, drives a lot of different behaviors. It can be the root to some serious research on a topic. It can also lead to the te...

Curses

Image
Picture From: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YqpyoWFazM Curses and Cursing are a part of life and there are at least two meanings to this concept. One meaning, comes from the mundane world and the second meaning comes from popular witch lore. In the mundane world cursing is sometimes called swearing. Mundane World: Swearing is Good for You From Time.com Scientifically speaking, swearing is good for you. It deadens pain and enlivens our emotional discourse. We know that its effects are physiological as well as psychological; it raises our heart rates and releases adrenaline whether we use it. And taboo language is so fundamental to the way we communicate that even potty-trained chimps can invent their own swearing. For swearing to work, there has to be a frisson of taboo about it. This isn’t just a value judgment; experiments prove that minced oaths — the “sugars” and “fudges” — just don’t work as pain relief, nor do they offer the same catharsis to people suffering fr...

Litha and Love

Image
I really do have an amazing teacher. We did a Litha ritual that is not even remotely near anything I have seen put out in the wicca circles. Very simple. Very Powerful. According to the written stuff I can find, Litha is about the fullness of the harvest. It is the longest day and shortest night. The height of the Sun God's power. Yet as the Sun God has reached his fullest, it also means he will start dyeing; or in terms of agriculture, the harvest happens. The Goddess knows this. She knows that she will watch him fade as she fades too. Litha is a celebration of the fullness of Love. It is not easy to continue to Love knowing that you will also have to watch that which you Love fade, but that is the cycle of life too. So, since this is the celebration of Love; What is Love? Love is probably the hardest thing to describe; there are just so many ideas about what it is. It does not help that our first introduction to Love is in receiving it or being Loved. For som...

Role Titles

Role Titles are a lot like Job Titles in my mind. Their job is to in a few words convey what this person does. Role Titles are a form of labeling, but unlike some labels, Role Titles are often earned more than given, or at least earned at one point or another. An example would be "Manager." When you think of a manager you think of a certain level of authority and trust given to an individual. Another example would be "Priest." Some may think of the Catholic Priest who is male, wears black clothing and a white collar. Some may think of other denominations of faith and how they dress. No matter the denomination or the dress, everyone expects a certain level of knowledge from a person who calls themselves "Priest" or in some cases "Priestess". So, why am I rambling on about these things? Because I have been contemplating how to label myself in regards to the occult, paganism, etc. I shy away from Priestess, because it doesn't feel right ...

Witches, Pagans, Polythesis, and Christians

There seems to be a big hub bub over Christians being in the Pagan circles and their working witchcraft. Which is rather amusing considering according to the Christian bible they are to "suffer not a witch" amongst them. Either way the topic seemed good fodder for a post, so here it is. I am going to start with defining each term and see where it goes from there. What is a witch and witchcraft? My opinion is that a witch is one who does witchcraft. Kind of logical to me for that to work that way. So what is witchcraft? Again, my opinion is that witchcraft is doing spells, incantations and the like for a particular goal or outcome. These can be simple phrases or elaborate set ups, but the result is belief that be doing so the world can or will be effected. What is a pagan? Well, this is a broad label. There are many who claim this label. For the most part this is someone who does not follow any of the variants of Christainity or the Jewish faith. Pagan is, to use anoth...

Pivot Points or Lynch Pins

Image
Whenever something goes wrong, most like to point a finger and assign blame. It is something that could be considered human nature. One thing my dad taught me very young was that if you are going to point a finger, you better address the 3 other fingers from your own hand pointing back at you. This teaching often has me asking how could this have been prevented or avoided? There are rarely any situations that there were not at least 3 points where the out come could have been changed. Sometimes solving those 3 points are easy and sometimes not so much. Mostly it's a game of awareness. As you get better at identifying where things could have been altered, you will notice them as they happen. In truth it is the ability to notice these points where a difference could be made as events unfold that makes or breaks many situations. It is why I call these points Pivot Points or Lynch Pins. When you come to one of these points you often have a choice to make. Sometimes you can pr...

Reincarnation

Image
Picture from:  https://www.learning-mind.com/what-could-possibly-await-us-in-the-afterlife/ Every religion out there has some form of an after the body dies idea. A good portion of the after life's out there have the individual going to a bliss or perpetual happy place. What shape that happy place takes depends on the morals or views of the religion or the culture that spawned the religion. Typically those who reach this perpetual happy place in the sky believe that they stay there for eternity. Eternity can be a subjective term too, because when has it not felt like eternity when you are waiting for something while in discomfort? That would imply that perhaps these promises of happy places, are not really promises of happy places? Moving on... Then you have Reincarnation. At its root, and it seems no matter which version, everyone agrees that reincarnation is a living, dying, and being reborn cycle. For the most part everyone also agrees that you don't get to remember...
