Litha and Love

I really do have an amazing teacher. We did a Litha ritual that is not even remotely near anything I have seen put out in the wicca circles. Very simple. Very Powerful.

According to the written stuff I can find, Litha is about the fullness of the harvest. It is the longest day and shortest night. The height of the Sun God's power. Yet as the Sun God has reached his fullest, it also means he will start dyeing; or in terms of agriculture, the harvest happens. The Goddess knows this. She knows that she will watch him fade as she fades too.

Litha is a celebration of the fullness of Love. It is not easy to continue to Love knowing that you will also have to watch that which you Love fade, but that is the cycle of life too.

So, since this is the celebration of Love; What is Love?

Love is probably the hardest thing to describe; there are just so many ideas about what it is. It does not help that our first introduction to Love is in receiving it or being Loved. For some of us this introduction to being Loved is less than desired, if received at all.

"Love is bigger than you are. You can invite love, but you cannot dictate how, when, and where love expresses itself. You can choose to surrender to love or not, but in the end, love strikes like lightning: unpredictable and irrefutable. You can even find yourself loving people you don't like at all. Love does not come with conditions, stipulations, addenda, or codes. Like the sun, love radiates independently of our fears and desires." https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/love-without-limits/201111/what-is-love-and-what-isnt

The ancient Greeks used seven words to define the different states of love we can experience
  • Storage: natural affection
  • Philia: friendship
  • Eros: sexual and erotica
  • Agape: unconditional, divine love
  • Ludus: flirting
  • Pragma: committed, married love
  • Philautia: self love
"Loving someone on the other hand, goes beyond the physical presence. You desire to see them grow, you see past their flaws, you see opportunities of building into each other and together; you motivate, encourage and inspire one another. You do not have to second-guess or ask before you step in to do so." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/falling-in-love-vs-loving-someone_b_57709758e4b0fa01a14049fa
