Hot Totty - My version

The base of this recipe is not mine, I have altered it to fit my needs. I have found that if I drink 4 oz a day with 1-2 tablespoons of honey I can prevent most colds.

Ingredients:

6 lemons
1 inch of fresh ginger or 1 teaspoon dried ground
6 cloves of fresh garlic or 1 teaspoon dried ground
1 teaspoon dried ground turmeric
1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cut lemons in half and then juice. Save the juice for later
  2. In a pot put all the squeezed lemon rinds and 2 liters of water.
  3. Bring pot to a simmer and wait for the smell to turn sweet; 8 to 10 minutes normally.
  4. In the lemon juice add all the other ingredients. If you are using fresh versions place lemon juice and the rest in a blender to be processed until smooth.
  5. Remove the lemon rinds from the pot and discard the rinds.
  6. Once all the rind is out of the pot add the lemon juice mix to it and stir well. Keep in mind extreme temperatures will damage the vitamin c from the lemons so err on the side of cooler but not quite room temperature when adding the lemon juice.

To Store:

This is a very acidic mix, so not much will willingly grow in it. I have found that if I use hot mason jars with fresh lids the jars will create a weak seal that will keep the mix for the time frame I need on a shelf at room temperature.

Serving:

Place 4 ounces in a microwave safe cup with 1-2 tablespoons of honey.

Microwave for no more than 30 seconds. Keep in mind extreme temperatures will damage the vitamin c from the lemons, but the warmth makes it taste better and helps the honey combine with the liquid.

You can also add your favorite whiskey to the mix after warming it.
