Lessons of the Trees

The lessons of / for life are all around us if we care to see them. Each species tree has something to teach us as they have all adapted to the environment we all in habit.

Living in Florida one finds many palm trees, pine trees, and I had the fortunate child hood of knowing some weeping willows.

Palm trees have this tight ball of small roots, long slim trunks, and their leaves bundled on top of the trunk. Palm fronds are esstially leaves with enhanced stems. The Palm tree uses and relies on its not creating a heavy canopy out of branches and leaves coupled with a root system that inter weaves in a manner to create as much friction as possible to with stand storms.

Pine trees grow tall with a crown of branches the spread out and typically a long tap root. The pine tree has a "standard" canopy of branches and leaves, however the pine tree has adapted to storms by making its leaves needle like and using a long deep sturdy root to anchor it in the soil.

Weeping willows are rather short trees with amazing shade under them owed to their huge canopy of branches and leaves. The ones I knew were about the height of a house with the largest trunk being about 8 inches in diameter. The trunk needs to be at least 6 inches in diameter to use the bark for aspirin. What makes the willow different from the pine tree and the Palm tree is that the willow did not develop a means to stand hard, strong, and tall in a storm. The willow instead chose to grow supple, to be able to bend and give in a storm.

Each of these trees have a lesson to teach.

If you do not want to grow strong roots, grow a lot and keep your top light; Palm tree.

If you want to grow a big crown of branches, make the leave arrow dynamic with your roots deep and strong; pine tree.

If you want to have a gourgous crown of billowy branches and leaves make sure you are supple enough to bend in a storm; willow.
