Elemental Placement
The placement of the elements has been one of my favorite debate and beat my head against the wall topics.
There are I don't know how many different ways and locations to place the elements in a circle. It seems for each named group there is a new something in the manner in which the elements are handled.
One manner of placing the elements I have seen and was taught was with air in the east, fire in the south, water in the west, and earth in the north. Oh my the arguments I would get into on the why. I laugh now, but in reality I do wonder if those who use this set up and insist that it is the "only" or "best" or what ever reason they give do understand why this set up works the way it does.
My all time favorite justification for the air in the east, fire in the south, water in the west, and earth in the north placement was that is how the sun travels through the elements. Which if you actually know anything about the astrological signs and that cycle it can become a rather heated argument.
Earth is considered by some to be the strongest "female" of the choices and Fire is considered the strongest "male" as well. With the air in the east, fire in the south, water in the west, and earth in the north configuration the elements balance each other out. Further if you subscribe to the "stronger" concept of the elements then by using this configuration in a circle you create a natural rise and fall of the energetic field which yields it's self to easier energy raising. Even if you do not subscribe to the "stronger" concept it is still a configuration that allows for a natural gathering or building of energy before transistioning to the next if you ascribe to the male and female polarities. If you ascribe to both the "stronger" and genderization of the elements then you have 2 natural energy raising cycles working at the same time.
